Local SEO (GMB) Google My Business
Amazingly in 2019, 56% of local businesses still haven’t claimed their free Google My Business (GMB) Listing account.
Google has given all businesses regardless of size the opportunity to earn free ranking in their Google Search results.
But why is this important to small local businesses?
Because small businesses operate their services within a smaller area with smaller population size, and that means there is less competition.
That means that you are no longer competing globally for rankings, or even nationally. It means that you are competing to rank locally.
According to studies done by Forbes, 95% of smartphone users have used their device to perform local searches and out of that 61 % called the business that they found and 59% visited.
Another study by SearchEngineWatch showed that 70% of mobile phone users click to call a business directly from Google search results.
What does this mean?
If you consider the numbers above, and the fact more and more phones are becoming smartphones, internet speeds are becoming faster the figures above are only going to increase.
Location based searches are now a huge opportunity for potential customer growth. Even better for businesses is that these leads or calls are coming from potential customers already specifically searching for products or services that your business offers which means these are qualified leads.
So as long as you are a good reputable company that offers an excellent and competitive service then qualified leads will result in very high conversion rates.
Let’s take the example to the left of typing in the keywords “Plumbers London”. Claiming your free GMB listing is enough to get your business into the Google search ranking results.
However, there are specific things that are needed in order to get your listing ranked in the Google 3 pack results. You can take a search engine optimization course if you have time or you can read your way through the thousands of search engine optimization articles that are available online to learn the basics of SEO to help you get started.
If you type in a service that you require in the town that you live you will see a search result of the 3 main businesses that Google thinks is the best suit for you in your area.
There you will see their name, address (usually, unless the business doesn’t require you to visit their premises) and their phone number. You will also see directions and a link to their website.
These are the 3 businesses that are receiving the most clicks and the most calls for that particular search term.
